Volkswagen Says E-Van ID.BUZZ Has 10,000 Orders in Advance

German automaker Volkswagen has said that it has received orders of more than 10,000 units for its newly launched ID. Buzz electric van. Volkswagen plans to manufacture a mere 15000 units of the electric van this year. This implies that most of its stock is already sold out before even the deliveries begin in Europe.

Volkswagen ID. BUZZ was unveiled as a production model, a blend of luxury and old classic, in March. The electric van comes with a battery pack of 82 kWh, which allows a driver to go as long as 200 miles on a single charge. The van also has multiple seat configuration options.

ID. Buzz is manufactured in Volkswagen’s plant in Hanover, Germany. According to reports, Lars Krause, VW Commercial Vehicle’s head of sales, “Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz full-electric van is already sold out for months before the start of deliveries, with advance sales having now passed the 10,000 mark, led by demand in Norway, followed by Germany.”

As far as the actual demand is concerned, 3400 orders came from Norway only for ID. Buzz. The home market of Volkswagen, Germany, has ordered about 2,500 vans. The Netherlands market has asked for 1,100 luxury vans while Belgium wants about 1,000 units. Volkswagen is yet to open deliveries in other large markets of Europe, namely, France and the United Kingdom.

Krause stated, “10,000 orders, without the car actually being at the dealer, let alone a customer having driven it. That is just impressive. I am very pleased that the ID. Buzz and the ID Buzz Cargo are already selling so well. We are, after all, still in the launch phase, before the market launch.”

Expanding the Reach

Volkswagen has kept the price higher than the market had anticipated, however that has not kept the customers away even though the company has opened orders only for select markets in Europe.

Volkswagen will expand the production capacity of ID. BUZZ to 60,000 units in 2023. The company will further raise the manufacturing to 130,000 units annually when the electric van is launched in North American markets.
