Varun Mehta Is Torrent Power’s New Director On Board In Succession Plan

Varun Mehta has been appointed to the Board of Torrent Power as Director. This move makes him the second third-generation member from the family to be elevated in a week’s time. This announcement comes close on the heels of the elevation of Aman Mehta, the son of Chairman, Torrent Group, Samir Mehta, to the board of Torrent Pharmaceuticals on August 1.

Varun Mehta has experience working in the company’s renewables, thermal generation, and distribution business areas with Torrent Power. He holds an MBA Degree from INSEAD (France) and a BSc in Management from the University of Warwick (United Kingdom). Starting off his career in the renewables sector, where he created a significant impact on the development of the group’s entrance strategy and initial deployment of renewable energy projects, he later transitioned to the thermal generation sector. Mehta has led a strategic push to successfully import LNG from the global markets, making Torrent Power the first Indian power firm to do so. The organisation experienced tremendous benefits from this project in the form of increased revenue and cost reductions.

Varun Mehta currently serves as the Executive Director of Torrent Power and is in charge of the company’s transmission, cables, and distribution licenses for Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Diu, Daman, Dadra, Nagar Haveli, and Dholera. The distribution division of Torrent has grown its lead over rivals and solidified its status as a gold standard utility under his direction. His major achievements include assuming control of the operations at Diu, Daman, Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Dholera, and Mandal Bechraji as well as increasing AT&C losses. Through his efforts, Torrent Power became one of only five businesses worldwide to get the prestigious Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour from the British Safety Council at the same time in 2021.
