Towards the establishment of a Green Energy Corridor in Bundelkhand, the Cabinet has given its nod to a project on the laying of power transmission lines. These will be more than 2,000 km. The clearance has also been issued for close to 20 substations towards solar power evacuation from power plants under development in various Bundelkhand regions.

“Under the second phase of the Green Energy Corridor, the project for evacuation of about 4000 MW of renewable energy in Bundelkhand region has been given a go-ahead. Several solar parks are coming up in Jhansi, Lalitpur, Jalaun, Chitrakoot regions of Bundelkhand region with a total capacity to general 4000 MW of renewable energy. For evacuation of this power, Rs 4,786 crore worth project has been given Cabinet clearance,” Cabinet Minister AK Sharma shared. He further revealed that the project will see financial assistance coming from the Centre. At the same time, it will also get loan from a

He said the project would get financial assistance from the Centre as well as a loan from a financial institution based in Germany. Three years is the timeline for the completion of the project.

The Cabinet also gave its nod for the laying of 6,636 km of optical fibre line. “This will help in data management and data grid control. While 30% of the cost will be borne by UP Government, about Rs 151 crore subsidy will be given by the Centre,” said an official.

India is giving major impetus to transmission projects. Last year, it launched “Transmission System for Integration of over 500 GW RE Capacity by 2030.” Under this, large solar parks and wind power zones with the national grid will be connected. The ambitious plan will witness an investment worth Rs 2.44 trillion in transmission projects. The Government has set sights on achieving 10,750 cms intra-state transmission lines along with 27,500 MVA sub-stations. March 2026 is scheduled commissioning timeline for the targets. The Government will give assistance at 33% of the cost for the project. Last year, the Power Grid Corporation of India also said that it would Invest Rs 330 Cr in a transmission system that will help in the evacuation of green power from renewable energy zones (REZ) that are based in Rajasthan.

In another push to transmission, a transmission line project aimed at the evacuation of 13,000 MW of renewable energy with government aid worth Rs 8,300 crores was also given clearance.
