Togo Solar Plant With Jakson As EPC Inaugurated

The  President of Togo, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé inaugurated a 50MWp Solar Power Plant in the West African country. The Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Solar Power Plant Project is being developed by AMEA Power, Dubai and designed, installed, commissioned, and executed by Jakson Group from India. The West African Development Bank and Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) provided concessional loans for the project.

The solar plant is expected to supply 90,255 GWh of electricity to the grid annually. Work on the plant had started in February 2020.

On the successful execution of the project, Mr. Sameer GuptaChairman & Managing Director, Jakson Group said, “We are proud to partner with AMEA Power, Dubai to execute the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Solar Power Plant, at Togo, first of its kind utility scale Solar Power plant in West Africa”.

The Jakson Group will be taking care of the operations and maintenance of the solar power plant in Blitta Village for two years.

Opportunities, and success in Africa is a key objective for many Indian solar firms and EPC firms, as they usually deal with international organisations for projects in the region. That minimises payment risks, while also offering better margins in Asia most times.

For Jakson, a well known name in the country thanks to its established diesel generator business, solar is emerging as the growth driver now. The firm claims a solar IPP portfolio of 200 MW with 60 MW of operational plants in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and is setting up another 120 MW of land based solar power plants in the states of Assam and Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, Jakson has 20 MW of operational solar rooftop installations in the country.

A state-of-the-art solar PV modules manufacturing facility at Greater Noida with an annual manufacturing capacity of 500 MW is being enhanced to 1 GW, according to the firm. Jakson Solar Modules and Products Unit comprises manufacture and sales of Solar PV panels, Module Mounting Structures, Solar Power Packs and other solar products and solutions.  The firm has its own well established dealer distribution network too. Solar offerings include Hybrid, On-Grid, and Off-Grid solar power packs ranging from 1 KW to 60 KW, which are predesigned and used by residential, commercial, and MSME customers for solar rooftop applications.
