Texas-based solar module manufacturer Mission Solar Energy has celebrated its tenth anniversary and simultaneously announced a 1 GW expansion plan. Mission Solar will ramp up production to meet industry demands for 2023 and beyond.

Mission Solar said that its products have become coveted by distributors, installers, and homeowners across the US and the recent passage of the Inflation Reduction Act includes incentives for expansion that the company plans to convert into more manufacturing and support jobs.

The official statement by Mission Solar held that the company will add to its 300MW production capacity immediately, with plans to reach 1GW annually in 2024. Expansion of the Mission Solar facility will begin in the fourth quarter of 2022. The increase in capacity is directly related to its sourcing strategy. OCI Company Ltd., the module manufacturer’s parent company in Seoul, South Korea, will play a vital role providing polysilicon for Mission Solar modules.

Previously, parent company OCI of Mission Solar Energy had held that the expansion envisages an investment of $40 million.

Jae Yang, President and CEO of Mission Solar Energy said, “By 2035, solar installations are expected to quadruple from current levels. At present, four percent of the electricity fed to American energy grids is generated by solar. The U.S. aims to have 40 percent of its electricity generated by solar technology by 2035. These are exciting opportunities for us as a company. Additional motivated team members will be needed to help us build a greener future.”

Mission Solar said that the direct, collaborative relationships with suppliers and other manufacturers, as well as local colleges and community organizations, ensure that company values of transparency, sustainability and stewardship are put into practice in the larger community.

First Solar, another solar module maker in the US, had revealed its plan recently to scale up its production to 4.4GW with an investment of about $1.2 billion.
