American automotive giant Tesla is keen to extend its reach in India and is mulling over the domestic incentives that it can avail with relation to car and battery manufacturing. It held discussions with government officials recently towards this goal.

Tesla is looking to establish a factory in India, where it aims to build electric vehicles. At the same time, it is also keen on manufacturing EV batteries locally.

Tesla has also set sights on gaining an insight into the local policies related to the EV sector in India.

It may be recalled that in 2022, the discussions between Tesla and India had failed to reach a fruitful conclusion after the firm had pleaded to curb the import tax on cars. While India wanted Tesla to make vehicles on a local level, the firm had wanted to test the waters first with imports.

Last year, Bengaluru-headquartered electric scooters manufacturer, Ather Energy had announced that it had hired the former head of Tesla Inc.’s India policy division. Manuj Khurana had left his position as Tesla’s Regional Head of Policy and Business Development in June 2022.

Tesla is currently making headlines for what could be its cheapest EV ever. The announcement came from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
