Tata Power Renewable Energy Joins Hands with Tata Power DDL for 510 MW Hybrid Project

A subsidiary of Tata Power and a major renewable energy player in the country, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL). The PPA is for a 510 MW hybrid project.

Tata Power-DDL, a joint venture between Tata Power and Govt. of Delhi, that supplies electricity to a populace of over 7 million in North Delhi.

The project will save on an average of 1540 MUs of CO2 emissions annually for Tata Power-DDL.

The PPA has the capacity bifurcation of 170 MW solar and 340 MW wind power. Located in Karnataka, it is one of the largest hybrid projects in the country and will be commissioned within 24 months from the PPA execution date.

Speaking on the signing, Ashish Khanna, CEO, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, said, “Tata Power Renewable has signed one of the largest PPAs in the country for a 510MW hybrid project, via competitive bidding, showcasing our future readiness and expertise in project execution skills. This partnership is significant in our quest to continue our journey as one of the torchbearers of the green and clean energy transition.”

TPREL won this project through a competitive bidding process, followed by the release of LOA by Tata Power-DDL. This win is an extension of the earlier LOA of 255 MW received in December 2022

With this win, the total renewables capacity of TPREL reaches 6,303 MW with an installed capacity of 3,909 MW (solar – 2,981 MW and wind – 928 MW). It will have another 2,394 MW under various stages of implementation.

TPREL is a developer of renewable energy projects (including solar, wind, hybrid, round-the-clock (RTC), peak, floating solar, and storage systems including battery storage) that it owns, operates and maintains. It also offers comprehensive green energy solutions for rural and urban areas like turnkey, EPC and O&M solutions for various business segments like utility-scale projects, solar rooftop, and solar pump systems. The firm has a portfolio of renewable solutions, and a solar cell and module manufacturing plant of 1.2 GW at Bengaluru and plans to set up a Greenfield 4 GW solar cell and 4 GW solar module plant. In addition, TPREL also provides electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions across various segments and other advisory solutions across the renewable sector.

As on date, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity is 6,303MW including 2,394 MW projects under various stages of implementation and its operational capacity is 3,909 MW, which includes 2,981 MW solar and 928 MW wind. Presently, the company’s solar EPC portfolio is more than 10 GWp of ground-mount utility-scale, over 1.3 GW of rooftop and distributed ground mounted systems and over 95,000 solar water pumps.

Recently, TPREL received the second and final round of investment of INR 2,000 crore from GreenForest New Energies Bidco Limited (GreenForest).
