Tata Power Delhi Distribution, TERI in Partnership for Sustainable Future

A joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Delhi, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a power utility that supplies electricity to a population of more than 7 million in North Delhi, has forged a partnership with The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) to encourage Urja Arpan initiative. The cooperation set sights on capitalising on the core strengths of both entities for effective utilization of green energy efficiency.

The signatories of the MoU were Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO of Tata Power-DDL, and Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General of TERI. The agreement was signed at the TERI office in New Delhi, in the presence of other senior officials of the company.

Speaking about this collaboration, Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO, Tata Power-DDL, said, “Tata Power – DDL and TERI are connected with their core value of resource efficiency and energy management. Hence, we look at this collaboration to amplify the importance of green energy and sustainable living standards across communities. Leveraging the theme of sustainability under the banner of ‘Urja Arpan’, we will educate the consumers about the significance of clean energy solutions. With the support of TERI, we will look at leveraging technology and bringing about awareness about energy efficiency, state of art energy efficient solutions and behavioural change among customers”.

Commenting on the association, Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General – TERI, opined that TERI and Tata Power-DDL while belonging to the common Tata ethos, bring different strengths to the table. While TERI offers it knowledge base and an experience of over 30 years in the field of Energy Management and Renewables, Tata Power-DDL has to offer the trust of Tata and a record of exemplary performance in the power distribution domain for customers. She further said event though the public at large is aware of electricity cost, there is very little knowledge about the indirect emission cost. She stressed on the need to jointly break the myth that clean energy is costly and change the mindset of society at large.

Tata Power-DDL says that is poised to make a paradigm shift by the creation of high-level sensitisation among society at large to embrace and practice sustainable solutions by utilising 5 star rated energy efficient appliances. This is important at a time when the dynamics are changing and there is an urgency for implementing sustainability initiatives at fast pace. The firm says it is focusing on the road ahead and looking at new opportunities for collaboration to spread awareness among various stakeholders under Urja Arpan Initiative. By joining Urja Arpan Program, customers can reduce their power bill, choose from multiple options to reduce their energy consumption and contribute towards ensuring power reliability.

Other Partnerships for Sustainable Solutions

In another one of its partnerships recently announced, Tata Power- DDL joined hands with Anyline, a global leader in mobile data capture and artificial intelligence, to work on reducing non-technical losses through a new forensic meter reading solution for field workers.

TERI, an independent, multi-dimensional organisation, with capabilities in research, policy, consultancy and implementation that has pioneered conversations and action in the energy, environment, climate change, and sustainability, also joined hands with Vedanta for the acceleration of ESG goals. The institute’s research and research-based solutions is known to have had a transformative impact on industry and communities. Headquartered in New Delhi, it has regional centres and campuses in Gurugram, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Mumbai, Panaji, and Nainital, supported by a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, sociologists, economists and engineers, and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
