State owned renewable energy developer SJVN has awarded the development of a 1000 MW solar power project in Bikaner district of Rajasthan to Tata Power. SJVN has issued a Letter of Award (LoA) for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Tata Power Solar Systems Limited. The upcoming 1000 MW solar power project will be ground mounted. The project is part of the 12 GW CPSU tenders, where SJVN won the 1000 MW capacity last year.

According to the letter of award, the scope of work is for the end to end delivery of the commissioned Solar Plant to SJVN. The contract includes arrangement of land on outright purchase basis, power evacuation system up to the ISTS Sub Station and Operation and Maintenance of the Solar PV Plant for three years.

According to the official statement of SJVN, the composite cost for construction or development of cumulative 1000 MW (AC) projects is close to Rs. 5,500 crore. This makes it the largest EPC award in India till date. The SJVN solar project will generate about 2400 million units in the first year.  Over a period of 25 years, about 56,800 million would be generated on a cumulative basis.

SJVN says that the Project will be completed in 24 months from here and the commissioning of the solar power project will reduce 27,85,077,000 kg of carbon emissions in 25 years.

SJVN Chairman and Managing Director, Nand Lal Sharma said, “The project further consolidates our commitment towards achieving the government’s target of 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. The recent securing of new solar projects is also paving way for achieving our firm’s vision of 5000 MW by 2023, 25000 MW by 2030 and 50000 MW by 2040.”

Commenting on the win, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, said “We are proud to have won this mega solar project from SJVN. Implementation of such large project reflects our commitment to the promotion of clean and green energy in the country and strengthens our position as the leading solar EPC player.”

With this win of 1GW, the company’s order booking crosses the INR 12000 Crore with a cumulative portfolio of more than 9.3GW for utility scale renewables projects.

Last year, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) had floated a tender under the CPSU Scheme for the development of Grid Connected Solar PV Power Project for a capacity of 1000 MW through competitive Bidding Process based on viability gap funding (VGF) support. SJVN bagged the complete quoted capacity of 1000 MW. IREDA issued the Letter of Award in October.
