Tata Motors has registered a massive year-on-year sales growth of 204% in the month of May 2022. According to a press release shared on June 1, the company’s sales in the domestic & international market for May 2022 stood at 76,210 vehicles. In the same month last year, Tata sold 26,661 vehicles (Commercial + Passenger) despite the Covid pandemic.
The auto major claimed to have sold 39,887 ICE passenger vehicles in May 2022 as against 14,705 units in the same month last year. It records a year-on-year sales growth of 171%. The company’s electric vehicles sales stood at 3,454 units, recording a massive jump of 626%. In the same month last year, Tata Motors sold 476 EVs in the Indian market.
As far as its month-on-month sales is concerned Tata Motors has managed to improve by good 1754 units that’s a growth of 4 per cent. The brand’s EV sales have also been improved on monthly basis. The company has sold 3,454 EVs as against 2,322 EVs in April 2022. Tata Motors sold a total of 32,818 commercial vehicles in May 2022 against 11,401 CVs in the same month last year. The company recorded a massive Year-On-Year sales growth of 188%.
In the domestic market, Tata sold 31,414 commercial vehicles in May 2022 as against 9,371 units in the same month last year. The domestic CV sales reported a growth of 235%. However, the brand’s exports declined by 31%. Tata Motors exported 1,404 CVs in May 2022 as against 2,030 units in May 2021.
Globally, the trend has a striking similarity. The number of electric vehicles (EVs) in the UK rose by 71% in 2021, according to research from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). By the end of 2021 there were almost three quarters of a million electric vehicles on UK roads, over 720,000 of which were cars.
Mike Hawes, SMMT’s chief executive, said, “Britain’s switch to electric vehicles continues to gather pace, with a record one in five new car registrations now plug-ins.”
