Taiwan-based largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer and battery swapping giant, Gogoro has shared that it is set to take the next big step to expand its reach into the Indian market. The emobility giant is set to kickstart battery swapping operations in India on April 25.

The firm will be inaugurating its first battery swapping station in the country called ‘GoStations’. Gurugram will be the first to welcome this initiative. It is being held that on the same day, Gogoro Smart Scooters will also be unveiled in partnership with Zypp Electric.

It may be recalled that Gogoro had made known its plans to mark entry into the Indian market. It has its sights set on investing in the development and establishment of battery swapping infrastructure in the country.

Indian partnerships

As per the firm, Gogoro has achieved the completion of 450 million battery swaps via GoStations all over the world and it now ready to bring the technology to India. The firm has shared its plan to invest $2.5 bn with Belrise to establish battery swapping infrastructure in Maharashtra. Belrise delves into contract manufacturing of electric vehicle (EV) and sub systems. Gogoro has also joined hands with Zomato for the supply of E2W and battery swapping network facilitating last mile deliveries.

Gogoro has collaborated with another electric two-wheelers company Hero MotoCorp to launch its products in India’s rapidly developing EV market. The partnership aims at hastening the conversion of last-mile deliveries and urban logistics fleets to electric vehicles utilizing battery swapping.

The Taiwan-based electric mobility firm is also looking at launching electric scooters in India by mid-2023.
