Spanish firm that delves into the development and management of infrastructure and renewable energy Acciona Energia has set sights on setting up a new 330 MW wind farm, which will come up in regional Nyaninuk, Victoria.

The proposal looks at constructing 58 wind turbines. These would generate 330 MW of renewable energy in regions of Western Victoria. This equals to powering up 210,000 homes every year. The proposal will pave the way for the creation of 210,000 jobs in Ballarat. In the wake of the construction of the project, employment opportunities through 200 jobs will be created. Additionally, there are ten ongoing permanent roles during operations too.

Spokesperson at Acciona Energia, Melanie Sutton said, “After several years of planning we’re happy we can start sharing more granular detail about the project with the community.”

The wind farm project will see an investment worth $700 million. Meanwhile, the EES referral (Environment Effects Statement) will be submitted later this year. The process of consultation will follow subsequently next year.

“We have a long history developing projects in Victoria and understand the landscape well. What we want to do now is engage with the community early so we can gather initial impressions,” Sutton stated further while adding,   “At this early stage, consultation timelines will continue to evolve. The EES phase is a long and thorough process to engage with everyone formally to collect feedback.”

Earlier, the firm announced building 1,000 MW Herries Range wind farm at the MacIntyre Wind Precinct. The firm is also establishing a 923 MW wind farm beside a wind farm owned by the state.

Australia has been a favoured site for solar and wind projects of late. The Queensland government recently announced its initiative to create 12 renewable energy zones (REZs) across the state, as part of a comprehensive $62 billion plan. The goal is to phase out coal power and transition to 80 percent renewable energy within a little over a decade.
