Somabay Resort And TAQA Arabia Establish PV Solar Plant

Cairo, Egypt witnessed the celebration of the launch of a 5MW PV solar plant in Somabay Resort owned by TAQA Arabia, which is the full-service energy and utility provider in Egypt.

The station was inaugurated in the presence of Osama Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abu Soma Tourism Development Company, Ibrahim El-Missiri, CEO, Abu Soma Tourism Development Company, Eng. Khaled AbuBakr, Executive Chairman of TAQA Arabia, and  Pakinam Kafafi, Chief Executive Officer of TAQA Arabia. Both the organisations have entered into another agreement to build a water desalination and treatment plant to cover the resort’s needs of desalinated water using solar energy.

The project strives to generate electricity from solar energy while also expanding the use of renewables for minimising dependance on conventional electricity. This will offer several advantages, such as a reduced cost and higher efficiency along with minimising carbon footprint.

“Somabay’s vision is aligned with Egypt’s 2030 strategy for sustainable development, having one of its main pillars the transformation of clean energy and the development of the green economy,” Osama Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abu Soma Tourism Development Company said on the occasion.
