SolarCity commissions 4.7 MW of solar PV at US army bases

SolarCity has completed the installations of 18000 solar panels at Army residential in Maryland and Colorado.

US company SolarCity has announced that it has commissioned around 4.7 MW of solar power systems at Army family housing in Maryland and Colorado operated by Balfour Beatty Communities.

The 18000 solar panels have been installed on multifamily housing, community centers and maintenance facilities at Fort Detrick in Maryland and Fort Carson in Colorado to provide power to approximately 1200 housing units across the two bases.

The installations has been calculated to more than 4.7 MW of capacity; with Fort Carson is the larger of the projects adding 3 MW of capacity, and the Fort Detrick installations are at 1.7 MW. The installations are the part of SolarCity’s SolarStrong project.

The power generated through the plants will be bought at a discount to local utility rates by the military housing project companies that are jointly owned by the Army and Balfour Beatty Communities.
