Located in a remote area, the Tripura State Rifle camps has been lit up with solar energy.

The Tripura State Rifle (TSR) personnel had been battling the challenge of power supply for a long time, and solar power has come as the answer to it. Now, 11 TSR camps are powered by solar energy. As per reports, solar powered pumps have also established in the hilly areas. The hilly districts of Dhalai and Khowai in Trupura have welcomed micro solar grids.

Tripura is eyeing the conversion of 50 per cent of the state’s cumulative power generation from solar.

A pilot project surrounding solar microgrids is also in the works and it will benefit 7,000 villagers. Areas in West Tripura, Sepahijala, South Tripura, Khowai, North Tripura and Dhalai have been selected to make this initiative a reality.

In another initiative that will give an impetus to renewable energy in Tripura, the power department of the state entered into an MoU with India’s largest energy conglomerate National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC). The partnership will look into the developing floating as well as ground mounted renewable energy projects in the north-eastern state of Tripura. The projects that will come into being as a result of the partnership are said to be large scale in nature and aid Tripura government with its clean energy commitments and obligations.
