SJVNL To Offer Solar Power At Rs 3.26/unit From Himachal Floating Plant SJVNL's Himachal Floating Plant To Provide Solar Power At Rs 3.26/unit

Shimla-based SJVN Green Energy Limited is now all set to provide solar power at the rate of Rs 3.26 per unit from its 15 MW floating solar power project situated at Nagal Pond, near Neila village in the Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh.

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), in its latest order, has also approved the tariff in its hearing. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) issued a Request for Selection (RfS) for setting up the floating solar plant on July 2, 2020. The grid-connected solar plant was proposed for long-term power procurement. The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) had entrusted the SECI to issue tenders for the project as a project management agency.

SECI had received three bids for the projects. SJVN, meanwhile, has quoted the lowest of Rs 3.26/unit. On December 19, 2022, BBMB signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the SJVN. All expenses for the operation & maintenance of the BBMB projects (currently, the total installed capacity of the BBMB Hydro Power Projects is 2936.73 MW) are borne by all the partner States in the agreed ratio. Also, energy generated at BBMB powerhouses is apportioned amongst the partner/ beneficiary States like Punjab, Himachal and Rajasthan in the agreed ratio.

As per the plan, the BBMB will procure the power produced from the floating solar plant from SJVNL and provide the power to partner states like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal and Chandigarh.

“it emerges that the selection of the successful bidder has been done and the tariff of the Floating Solar Power Project has been discovered through a transparent process of competitive bidding in accordance with the Solar Guidelines issued by the Ministry of Power, Government of India…Therefore, in terms of Section 63 of the Act, the Commission adopts the tariff for the Solar Power Project, as agreed to by the successful bidder, and for which a PPA has been entered into by the Petitioner and SJVN Green Energy Limited (i.e. Project Company of successful bidder SJVN Limited), for the apportionment of such power to the Petitioner’s partner States/their nominated entities (Discoms), which shall remain valid throughout the period…”
