The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has given its nod to a proposal on the establishment of additional electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Delhi. This is the second phase of expansion for EV charging stations in the city.

The NDMC gave its approval to the EV charging station in NDMC area as part of the National Electric Mobility Program. Under this initiative, memorandum of understanding (MoUs) are to be signed with Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), as per the statement. These PSUs are Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments Limited (REIL), which is a “Mini Ratna” central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Heavy Industries; KELTRON a Kerala government enterprise under the Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Limited, HLL Infra Tech Services Ltd, a subsidiary of HLL Life Care Limited. It is an enterprise that delves into the exploration of and provision of facilities across the NDMC area.

At present, 100 EV charging stations have been installed by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).

The National Electric Mobility Program sets sights on giving a push to hybrid as well as electric vehicles. It paves the way for fiscal incentives in order to advance the sales of these vehicles.

Delhi has been proactively promoting the EV sector. The Electric Vehicle Policy of the Delhi Government that was introduced in year 2020, is said to have achieved 86% of its targets with the sale of EVs seeing a sharp rise. Delhi’s Electric Vehicle Policy will expire this August. The Delhi government has already begun work on a revised version of the draft policy and will welcome stakeholder consultations soon.
