Scout Clean Energy Sells 199 MW Oklahoma Wind Farm to Evergy

Colorado-based renewable energy developer-owner-operator Scout Clean Energy has announced that it, along with its joint venture partner Elawan Energy sold the 199-megawatt (MW) Persimmon Creek Wind Farm to Evergy Inc. The wind energy farm lies in western Oklahoma.

Michael Rucker, CEO and founder of Scout Clean Energy, said, “The Persimmon Creek Wind Farm has proven to be a reliable renewable energy source over the last five years, making it a solid investment for Scout. We are excited to finalize the sale to Evergy as it seeks to deliver carbon-free wind energy directly to its customers.”

Persimmon achieved commercial operation in 2018. The wind farm employed 80 General Electric turbines across 17,000 acres in Dewey, Ellis and Woodward counties in Oklahoma. Scout Clean Energy said that the renewable energy generated from Persimmon would serve customers in Evergy’s service area.

The Scout Clean Energy CEO further added, “The completion of the Persimmon Creek sale positions Scout to provide a significant return on the capital invested. Additionally, as a part of the existing operations agreement, Scout will continue servicing the project through the end of this year.”

Scout & Other Players Involved

Scout Clean Energy is now a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable for the last six months. Executing growth plans, Scout has finalized the sale of Persimmon Creek, with the proceeds being deployed back into new development projects. The renewable energy player also started construction on the 200MW Sweetland Wind Farm in South Dakota.

It’s looking for a financial close for its 209MW Markum Solar Power Project in Texas, whose construction will start later this year. Scout remains focused on constructing and developing its pipeline of 16.5 GW of Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage projects across 22 states.

Evergy is into producing, transmitting and delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy for its 1.7 million customers in Kansas and Missouri. Nearly half of Evergy’s power comes from carbon-free sources, it claims.
