Sahibabad Gets Its RE-Fueled Green Data Center By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Fri, Jun 27th, 2025 Highlights : The Green Data Centre in Sahibabad has come up with a ₹1,000-crore investment, aimed at boosting India’s digital infrastructure and environmental sustainability. Sahibabad Gets Its RE-Fueled Green Data Center Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh laid the foundation stone for a Green Data Centre in Sahibabad, a ₹1,000-crore project aimed at boosting India’s digital infrastructure and environmental sustainability. The 30-megawatt facility, a joint initiative between Central Electronics Limited (CEL) — a Government of India PSU under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) — and ESDS Software Solution Ltd, is being developed to meet the rising demand for energy-efficient data management while promoting green technologies. Describing the data centre as a “milestone in India’s journey toward becoming a self-reliant global digital power,” Dr. Singh said the project would play a critical role in advancing sustainable innovation and economic development. CEL’s revival and expanded mandate Lauding CEL for its pioneering role in India’s solar sector, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the company’s advanced photovoltaic technology has brought electricity to remote and tribal regions in Uttar Pradesh, while also contributing to critical infrastructure like railway safety and digital services. “CEL’s contributions go far beyond defence; they are instrumental in bridging development gaps and enabling inclusive growth,” Adityanath said. CEL, established in 1974 to commercialise indigenous technologies developed in national R&D labs, introduced India’s first solar cell in 1977. Dr. Singh recalled that the company had recently emerged from a financial crisis and near disinvestment through a successful public-private partnership, regaining momentum and earning Mini Ratna status last year. Green and scalable digital infrastructure The upcoming Green Data Centre will be designed to Tier III and Uptime-compliant standards, featuring high availability and operational resilience. The facility will include: 30 MW capacity, with scalable floors accommodating 200 high-density racks each A 40 Gbps fibre ring network with dual 10 Gbps ISP links for cloud integration and disaster recovery Rainwater harvesting, reflective roofing, and smart cooling systems to minimise its carbon footprint The centre is expected to attract startups, government users, and enterprises, creating skilled employment and supporting India’s digital ambitions while adhering to sustainable design principles.
