Roadmap Ready to Make MP a Leading State in Solar Gen, says CM Investment in Solar Power to Exceed Investment in Oil in 2023: World Energy Report, IEA

Union Power Minister RK Singh has announced an allocation of Rs 13,000 crore for Madhya Pradesh (MP) for modernisation and infrastructure development in the energy sector, especial solar generation an official said on November 26, according to media reports. The news follows some smart progress made by Madhya Pradesh in terms of adding capacity, as well as successful awards of tenders for multiple solar parks across the state. The role of RUMSL is particularly worth highlighting in this context. A recent tender for a 600 MW floating solar project is one of the most ambitious efforts yet.

Singh made the announcement in a joint meeting with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and top officials of the energy department on Thursday evening, the official from the public relations department said.

“Madhya Pradesh will get Rs 13,000 crore for modernisation and infrastructure development in the energy sector. The reforms being carried out in the energy sector are praiseworthy and the innovations followed by the state for reducing energy losses are novel and implementable,” the official said quoting Singh.

Chouhan thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union power minister for sanctioning the amount to the state, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said a roadmap has been prepared to make MP a leading state in solar power generation.

In August this year, Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (MPUVNL) invited bids for the selection of developers for the implementation of approximately 225 MW(AC) grid-connected solar power plants connected to selected 33/11 kV substations under the PM KUSUM program at various locations in the state.

The PM KUSUM program aims to provide clean energy to more than 3.5 million farmers by solarising their agriculture pumps and allowing farmers to up 10 GW distributed solar projects.

Chouhan further said that the world heritage site of Sanchi will be developed as a “totally green city”, where all electricity requirements will be met with solar power and will draw the attention of the world.

Singh pointed out that there was no power shortage in the state, there was focus on generating green energy and in comparison, to other states, the power management was also much better here, the official said.
