Renewable Energy Production of Iberdrola Exceeds 55,500 GWh

Spanish multinational utility company Iberdrola has informed that its renewable energy production has exceeded 55,500 GWh in the first nine months of this year. The strong performance has come due to the new installed capacity and the performance of onshore wind power that compensated for the lack of rain in recent months. The onshore wind production has increased by 12% to 33,333 GWh.

The official statement of Iberdrola held that the RE production in the period has contributed to avoiding the consumption of 9.6 billion cubic metres of natural gas.

According to data published today in the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), Iberdrola has increased the installed renewable capacity by almost 2,000 MW in the last twelve months, to 39,268 MW green energy. With this progree, the company has almost 60,000 MW worldwide.

Most of the RE growth has come in Brazil and the USA. In Brazil, Iberdrola is developing the Otis Onshore Wind Farm Complex, which will comprise 12 farms and will have a total installed capacity of 566.5 MW at the end of construction. It will be its largest onshore wind project in Latin America and the second largest in the world. Also, it has started commercial operation of its first solar farm Luzia that has a capacity of 149 MW.

In the US, the company installed about 524 MW in the last 12 months with 295 MW in onshore wind and 229 MW in photovoltaic. Iberdrola has set out to lead the energy transition in the world’s largest economy with an investment of close to EUR 15 billion by 2025.

In Spain, Iberdrola has continued to make progress in the decarbonisation of the Iberian Peninsula with 380 MW of new renewable capacity, mainly 278 MW of solar PV. The ‘green’ installed capacity in the country totals 19,439 MW, mainly onshore wind (6,160 MW), hydroelectric (10,700 MW) and photovoltaic (2,305 MW). In August, it commissioned 590 MW “Francisco Pizarro” PV project in Extremadura, southwest Spain. The company also announced to begin construction this year on another six projects that will provide 873 MW of new solar power in four autonomous communities of Spain.

Iberdrola said that at the end of the first nine months of 2022, 79% of production was emission-free, bringing installed emission-free capacity to 80%.
