It explained that under this partnership, Google will procure the project’s energy attributes from ReNew. Moreover, this long-term procurement can improve the project bankability and also help Google make progress towards addressing its value chain emissions. Corporate partnerships such as the ReNew–Google agreement underscore the essential role of private sector investment and innovation in accelerating India’s clean energy transition.

Previous Partnerships

The data centre boom underway is expected to lead top strong demand from the sector for renewable energy, especially FDRE or RTC based models. Previously, Google partnered with companies such as Bharti Airtel to develop artificial intelligence (AI) hubs in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Under this initiative, Airtel committed to investing approximately USD 15 billion over five years (2026–2030) in Google’s AI hub in the city. The facility will feature gigawatt-scale data centre operations, supported by a subsea network and clean energy, and is designed to handle India’s most demanding AI workloads. The project is being implemented in collaboration with ecosystem partners, including Airtel and AdaniConneX.

Similarly, in Gujarat, Google has collaborated with the Adani Group, under which Adani will supply clean energy from a new solar-wind hybrid project at the Khavda renewable energy park in the state. This agreement followed another deal between Google and CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions (CleanMax), a Brookfield-backed company and a leading provider of renewable energy and net-zero solutions for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector.
