Vareyn Solar Pvt. Ltd, a turn-key solar EPC firm, recently installed a 400kW agrivoltaic solar plant at Nahargarh Ranthambhore, a hotel in Rajasthan. The hotel is owned by Gaj Singh- a supporter of wildlife and green initiatives.

Situated amidst the lush forest of Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve, Gaj Singh sought to reduce the carbon footprint to zero and utilize the land for a farm-to-table concept for their guests. The solar plant boasts a capacity of 400kW, operating as an agrivoltaic system, integrating solar panels with agricultural activities. The site has a raised structure for agricultural activities since it needed to accommodate banana farming along the perimeter of the plant area. This necessitated the raising of panels to accommodate the farming plan.

It is anticipated to produce nearly 6 lakh units of energy while offsetting approximately 300,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Vareyn Solar has employed Navitas Mono PERC panels and Sungrow inverters for the project.

CAPEX+ Model

The solar plant was commissioned under Vareyn Solar’s CAPEX+ Model offering, wherein the developer offers collateral free finance at 8% reducing rate. It includes DISCOM billing support and rectification along with regular panel cleaning and insurance with zero depreciation.

The model also offers installation with two-year maintenance, which includes features like electricity bill checkup, correction, and rectification if needed, comprehensive cover with Vareyn, which includes panel replacement at no cost to the customer, including third-party losses, 24 cleaning cycles in a year and all maintenance, corrective, preventive, among other measures.

“This 400kW solar PV system with the galvanized structure of 3.5-meter minimum height has allowed us to continue our efforts to bring farm to table ingredients to our patrons and has helped in utilizing the space which otherwise would’ve been blocked for the next 25 years,” stated Gaj Singh Alsisar, Owner, Alsisar Group of Hotels.

The idea of agrivoltaics is gathering steam in India, especially in the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Gujarat State Electricity Corporation, GIPCL, CAZRI Institute have developed prominent agrivoltaics projects in the states. The Cochin International Airport also practices agrivoltaic farming.
