Rajasthan: RUVITL Plans Procuring 500 MW RTC Power For 5 Years By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Mon, Jul 7th, 2025 Rajasthan: RUVITL Plans Procuring 500 MW RTC Power For 5 Years In a move to strengthen the electricity supply in the state, Rajasthan Urja Vikas & IT Services Limited (RUVITL) has filed a petition with the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) seeking regulatory approval to procure 500 megawatts (MW) of Round-The-Clock (RTC) power over a five-year period. The proposed procurement is part of a strategic effort to meet the growing demand for reliable and consistent power among the state’s distribution companies (Discoms). According to the petition, the procurement will be carried out through a competitive bidding process and is aimed at bridging supply gaps during peak hours and ensuring uninterrupted power availability across Rajasthan. Filed under the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003, the petition outlines that the proposed acquisition of power would follow the Model Bidding Documents—including the Request for Qualification (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP), and the Agreement for Procurement of Power (APP)—as issued by the Ministry of Power (MoP), Government of India on January 29, 2019, along with subsequent amendments. RUVITL has proposed that the power will be sourced through projects established under the Finance, Own, and Operate (FOO) model. This approach allows private developers to finance, build, own, and operate power generation stations while supplying electricity to Discoms under agreed commercial terms. In the petition, RUVITL noted that the procurement of 500 MW RTC power is crucial for ensuring grid stability and meeting energy requirements during high-demand periods. As Rajasthan continues to expand its industrial base and experiences growing residential consumption, the additional power supply is expected to help reduce dependence on short-term and expensive market purchases. The utility has also stressed that timely regulatory approval is essential to initiate the bidding process and execute contracts with selected power generators. The power purchase is expected to be secured at competitive rates through transparent tendering, in line with the central government’s emphasis on improving procurement efficiency and affordability.
