Rajasthan is spearheading the expansion of renewable energy in the country and paving the way for India’s energy transition. A comparison of renewable capacity addition data of all Indian states hinted that Rajasthan added the highest renewable capacity in the country in the last year.

As per the figures of monthly renewable energy capacity addition from the end of August 2022 to August 2023, Rajasthan added the highest of 3,917 Megawatt (MW) of renewable capacity. Rajasthan, by the end of August 2022, had a total installed renewable power capacity at 19512 MW, which notched up to 23429 MW by the end of August 2023.

It was the highest addition by any Indian state during the period. It was followed by Gujarat, which added 3,751 MW of green energy during the same period. Gujarat last year had a total of 17910 MW of renewable capacity by August, which increased up to 21661 MW last month.

On the other hand, several other states are also jumping onto the expansion spree. Following the suit, Maharashtra added the third highest of 2,182 MW. It was followed by Tamil Nadu, which saw the addition of 1605 MW of new renewable energy capacity. Tamil Nadu had 16941 MW capacity by the end of August last year, which touched 18546 last month.

Karnataka fell in the fourth slot with the addition of 1604 MW of renewable capacity in the last year. Madhya Pradesh meanwhile added 663 MW of renewable capacity during the same period.
