Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has emerged as the winning bidder for a major Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) project through a tariff-based competitive bidding process. The announcement was made through a formal disclosure to the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and BSE Limited on January 8, 2026.
The transmission project aims to strengthen grid infrastructure for integrating additional renewable energy generation at Davanagere and Bellary in Karnataka. It will facilitate the evacuation of 3 GW of renewable capacity, comprising 0.25 GW at Davanagere and 2.75 GW at Bellary, boosting the region’s green power transmission capabilities.
Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer Basis
According to POWERGRID, the Letter of Intent (LoI) for the project was issued on January 7, 2026, and received the next day. The project will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The company will develop a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line traversing parts of Karnataka, designed to strengthen interconnection between key renewable hubs and the national grid.
The scope includes construction of associated line bays at both ends of the line, along with significant augmentation at existing pooling stations. These enhancements involve installing interconnecting transformers and additional line bays at the Davanagere and Bellary pooling stations, enabling the infrastructure to handle higher renewable inflows while ensuring grid reliability and stability.
Regulatory Disclosure and Compliance
The disclosure was made in accordance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. It was officially signed by Satyaprakash Dash, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of POWERGRID.
