Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his plans to launch 14 thousand projects across the state worth more than 10 Lakh crore rupees on his visit to Uttar Pradesh (UP).

UP has earlier this year released a tender inviting bids for procurement of solar power on a long-term basis through a tariff-based competitive bidding process (TBCB). The tender by UPPCIL in this regard read, “On behalf of the distribution licensee of Uttar Pradesh (UP) invited proposal for the procurement of 2 GW solar power from inter-state (IST) and infra state connected solar power generation stations for 25 years. The interested parties must submit their bids by March 18, 2024.”

UPNEDA released close to 125 projects at an estimated outlay of Rs 1 lakh crore in the pipeline in the field of clean energy, Uttar Pradesh is well in line to meet 40 percent of the state’s energy requirement through solar and alternate sources. Of these, four large solar projects worth Rs 35,000 crore will be set up in different districts of Bundelkhand and Eastern Uttar Pradesh in the first phase, according to the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).

At this ceremony which is the fourth ceremony for investment proposals received during the UP Global Investors Summit 2024 held in February last year. The projects relate to sectors like Manufacturing, Renewable Energy, IT and ITeS, Food Processing, Housing and Real Estate, Hospitality and Entertainment, and Education, among others. During the visit, Modi will also lay the foundation stone of Kalki Dham Temple in Sambhal district and address the gathering on this occasion.

“The state government had received investment proposals to the tune of Rs 40 lakh crore at the Global Investor Summit (GIS) held in 2023 and solar power and other clean energy projects under the ‘Akshay Urja’ Scheme accounted for a significant share of the total investment,” said Anupam Shukla, Director, UPNEDA. “The State currently generates close to 2152 MW of solar energy, out of which 372 MW is in open access. Bundelkhand region has witnessed the maximum number of solar plants amounting to nearly 60 per cent of the total solar energy generated in the State.”
