Pinewood, Braithwaite collaborate to develop 500 MW solar project of MSEDCL

Indian renewables’ investor Pinewood Systems (PSPL) has said that it has formed its “executive team” that will develop the company’s upcoming 500 MW Solar Project in collaboration with Braithwaite & Co., a public sector under the Ministry of Railways.

Satish Jha, Chairman, Pinewood Systems said that the board has chosen a high-performing team educated at IIT Bombay, IIT, Madras, and IIM Calcutta along with more than a decade of experience in energy and solar projects management, headed by a seasoned power sector and technology executive.

Yatish Kumar, CMD, Braithwaite & Co., said on Pinewood partnership, “This work is a most prestigious for us as a team. We will work for the ultimate benefits of the farmers, which in fact is an ultimate goal of this project”.

Pinewood held that the newly formed team will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of the 500 MW Solar Project. This would include project planning, resource allocation, risk management and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The primary objective Pinewood is to adhere to the timeline set by MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited).

In July 2022, Braithwaite has got an allotment of 500 MW out of a 535 MW of bids accepted by MSEDCL,  under the ‘Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana’ from 2 to 10 MW capacity projects. For the record, Braithwaite India had indicated 119 sites where it will consider putting up the 500 MW projects it had won.

MSEDCL At Solar Forefront In Maharashtra

As on March 03, 2023, MSEDCL has executed PPAs for almost 6000-MW Solar projects out of which over 4100 MW capacity is commissioned. During FY 2022-23, MSEDCL has executed PPAs for 500 MW Solar projects & projects of 800-MW capacity stand commissioned.

With regards to centralised projects, MSEDCL has executed PPAs for over 4400 MW of solar projects out of which 3600 MW capacity is commissioned.

In order to provide day time power supply to agriculture consumers Government of Maharashtra came up with Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) in 2017 and through which 11 KV Agriculture feeders are being solarized. In last fiscal, MSEDCL has executed PPAs for 1513 MW with decentralised solar projects out of which 556 MW capacity has been commissioned.
