NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited, has commissioned the first part of its 1.2 GW solar project in Gujarat. In a regulatory filing, the company said the first phase comprises 210 MW of the 1,200 MW Khavda-II Solar PV Project located in the state.
The latest project takes NTPC Green Energy Limited Group's current commercial capacity to 8,478.25 MW. With the addition of this capacity, the group’s total installed capacity will increase to 8,688.25 MW.
Other Renewable Energy Projects in Gujarat
NTPC Green has been progressing rapidly in commissioning renewable energy projects. Earlier this month, the company completed the final formalities for a renewable energy project in Rajasthan and brought it online by operationalising 300 MW of its 500 MW Bhadla Solar PV Project in Phalodi.
Out of the total planned capacity of 500 MW, the initial 300 MW tranche has now achieved full commercial operation, injecting reliable solar power into the grid. The project went live on January 13, 2026, with the commissioning certificate issued by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL).
Other companies expanding their presence in Gujarat include SAEL Industries Ltd, which has commissioned a 1 GWp (800 MW) solar power plant at Khavda. SAEL commissioned GUVNL-backed solar projects through its subsidiaries, SAEL Solar P4 Private Limited and SAEL Solar P5 Private Limited (400 MW, 500 MWp each).
The projects were undertaken under 25-year-long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), ensuring revenue stability. The projects deploy over 15 lakh TOPCon bifacial modules, more than 60% of which were assembled at SAEL’s solar manufacturing facilities in Punjab and Rajasthan, in line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
