NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has commenced commercial operations for 300 MW of its 500 MW Bhadla Solar PV Project in Phalodi, Rajasthan. The project went live on January 13, 2026, with the commissioning certificate issued by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL) on January 14, 2026.
The project is developed under NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NGEL.
Project Details and Commissioning Timeline
Out of the total 500 MW planned capacity, the initial 300 MW tranche has now achieved full commercial operation, injecting reliable solar power into the grid.
Located in the solar-rich Thar Desert region of Rajasthan, the project benefits from high irradiance levels, optimising output and efficiency.
The Bhadla Solar PV Project marks a significant milestone in NGEL's ambitious expansion into utility-scale solar infrastructure. It will supply clean energy to the northern grid, enhancing stability and reducing carbon emissions in a region historically dependent on coal.
NGEL Group Capacity Hits 8,310 MW
This addition has increased the NTPC Green Energy Group's total installed commercial capacity from 8,010.28 MW to 8,310.28 MW. NGEL's diversified portfolio spans solar, wind, and hybrid projects across multiple states.
NGEL, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited and listed on the BSE, continues to prioritise large-scale solar investments alongside wind and hybrid solutions, aligning with government policies for carbon-neutral growth.
Bhadla Solar Park is India’s largest solar power plant, which was announced in 2015 and completed in four development phases. The solar plant has a capacity of 2.245 GW, with approximately 1 crore solar panels generating around 7,32,874 MWh of electricity annually. This massive solar power plant is situated in the Bhadla village of the Jodhpur district in Rajasthan, spanning 14,000 acres of land in the middle of the Thar Desert.
