NTPC REL To Supply Solar Power To UP Discom At Rs. 2.56/kWh NTPC REL Wins UPPCL's 1 GW Solar Project At Rs. 2.56/kWh

NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited, has secured a 1,000 MW solar power project in an auction conducted by Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). The project was awarded at a tariff of ₹2.56 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), making it the lowest bid in the auction, according to a regulatory filing by the company.

A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has already been signed between NTPC REL and UPPCL, ensuring the state distribution company access to cost-effective renewable power.

This marks another key win for NTPC REL in UPPCL’s ongoing solar procurement drive. The utility recently concluded a 2 GW solar auction in which NTPC REL again emerged as one of the lowest bidders, further cementing its consistent pricing strategy across competitive bids.

Consistency In Bid

NTPC has previously won multiple tenders from UPPCL. Earlier this year, UPPCL concluded its 2 GW solar auction, with NTPC emerging as one of the lowest bidders. UPPCL awarded projects to several developers, including ReNew Solar Power, Fastnote Biofuels (Hindustan Power), and Adani Renewable Energy Holding Twelve.

According to the tender results, the lowest tariff of ₹2.56/kWh was awarded to NTPC for 1,000 MW and to ReNew for 300 MW. Fastnote Biofuels won a 300 MW solar project at ₹2.57/kWh, while Adani secured the remaining 400 MW out of the 1,000 MW quoted under the bucket-filling method, also at ₹2.57/kWh.

At the onset of 2025, NTPC REL emerged as the successful bidder in UPPCL’s e-reverse auction to select solar power developers for 2,000 MW of ISTS-connected solar PV projects. The company secured 1,000 MW capacity at a tariff rate of ₹2.56/kWh — consistent with its earlier winning bids — indicating a stable pricing strategy across UPPCL tenders.
