NTPC REL Operationalize 150 MW Gujarat Solar Project

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited has successfully declared the commercial operation of the final 60 MW capacity of its 150 MW Gujarat Solar PV Project, marking the full commissioning of the project in Limbdi, Gujarat. This solar venture was awarded under the GUVNL 500 MW Solar (Phase XII) tender.

The last segment of 60 MW commenced commercial operation on April 16, 2025. This follows the earlier commissioning of the first 60 MW on July 29, 2024, and the second 30 MW on December 11, 2024. With this milestone, the entire 150 MW capacity of the Gujarat Solar PV Project is now operational.

Previous Solar Projects In Gujarat

Adani Green Energy, one of Gujarat’s fastest-growing renewable companies, has expanded its capacity with two new solar power projects in Khavda. Its subsidiary, Adani Green Energy Twenty-Five A Limited, has commissioned an additional 275 MW solar project, while another step-down subsidiary, Adani Green Energy Twenty-Six B Limited, has recently operationalized a 67 MW project.

“With the commissioning of this plant, AGEL’s total operational renewable generation capacity has increased to 11,983.1 MW,” the company said in a regulatory filing.

According to its provisional operational update, AGEL added 3,309 MW of greenfield capacity in FY25, taking its total operational capacity to 14,243 MW. Of this, 2,710 MW came from solar power projects in Khavda, with 1,460 MW already commissioned. The company said the capacity utilization factor (CUF) at its flagship Khavda solar project reached 32.4% in the fourth quarter of FY25, approaching stabilized operating levels.

Gujarat is also emerging as a hub for solar cell manufacturing. Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm Kosol Energie has commissioned a 12 MW direct current (MW DC) solar power plant for Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) at Manjal.

The project spread across 45 acres of unused government-owned wasteland, uses 545 Wp bifacial modules with 144 half-cut cells and transparent backsheets mounted on fixed-tilt structures. Thirteen acres were designated for extra high voltage (EHV) and high voltage (HV) transmission lines, towers, and pipelines, the company said.
