Indian solar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm Kosol Energie has commissioned a 12 megawatt direct current (MW DC) solar power plant for the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) at Manjal in Gujarat, the company said in a statement.

The project, developed over 45 acres of unused government-owned wasteland, uses 545 Wp bifacial modules with 144 half-cut cells and transparent backsheets mounted on fixed-tilt structures. Of the total area, 13 acres were designated for extra high voltage (EHV) and high voltage (HV) transmission lines, towers and pipelines.

Bifacial modules to boost production 

According to Kosol, the plant aims to support agricultural activities in the region, aligning with GSECL’s clean energy goals. The bifacial modules, which capture sunlight from both sides, are expected to boost energy output by more than 15 percent compared to monofacial modules, even on fixed-tilt structures.

The company said the project was delivered on a fast-track basis despite facing challenges such as harsh weather, right-of-way issues and land encroachment.

“We are proud to have commissioned this innovative project for GSECL in record time, overcoming on-site complexities while integrating our advanced module technology,” said Kosol Energie CMD Kalpesh Kalthia. “This is a testament to our commitment to innovation, quality and sustainability.”

Carbon Abatement Through Solar 

The plant is expected to generate an average of 56 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity per day and offset around 402,814 tonnes of CO₂ emissions over 25 years. It complies with all required electrical standards and quality benchmarks, the company said.

Kosol added that the Manjal project supports India’s national solar mission and strengthens rural infrastructure by delivering clean and reliable electricity for agricultural use.
