NTPC Floats Tender For 9,000 MWH Of ISTS-Connected Energy Storage Systems NTPC REL Issues Tender for Substation Pkg for 630 MW Solar Park

The National Thermal Power Corporation Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) has now invited online bids from developers for a 9,000 Megawatt-Hour (MWH) of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected energy storage solution.

The tender said the plant(s) could be based anywhere in India. The minimum capacity of the same should be 1,500 MW, the tender said. NTPC REL said that an e-reverse auction would follow the bidding process.

The renewable venture of NTPC claimed that it wanted the energy storage systems to meet its Renewable Energy Round The Clock (RTS)/peak power requirements complementing with wind and solar generation profile under the ISTS mode. Therefore, the organization has issued a tender inviting bidders worldwide. It said that after bidding, NTPC REL would enter into an energy storage service agreement on an annual fixed charge basis with the selected bidders for 25 years.

The project is planned to be set up by the developer on a Build Own and Operate (BOO) basis. “The power generated by any of the RE projects of NTPC REL shall be used for the charging of the ESS project and NTPC REL shall utilize the above energy storage facility, on an “On-Demand” basis, suited to its requirements during the peak and off-peak hours to meets its RE-RTC and/or Peak Power Requirements power requirement,” the tender said.

NTPC REL said that the project size would be at least 600 MWHr with 100 MW (min) capacity and asked the bidders to bid for the same.

The tender, however, has excluded already commissioned projects. “Already commissioned projects cannot be considered under this RfS. Projects under construction or projects which are not yet commissioned will, however, be considered in case these projects are not already accepted under any other Central or State Schemes. The tender said that enhancement and augmentation of already commissioned Projects, irrespective of their capacities, will not be considered an eligible project under this scheme,” the tender said.

NTPC REL said that the pre-bid conference and last date for receipt of queries would be up to May 28, 2023, while the last date of receipt of bids is June 16, 2023. NTPC Renewable recently entered into a deal with GreenKo ZeroC Pvt Limited for RTC supply of renewable energy for their Green Ammonia plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh
