Tamil Nadu-based NLC India Limited, a Navratna Central Public Sector has incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary, NLC India Green Energy Limited (NIGEL). The arm has been established to commission renewable energy projects.

NIGEL has set sights on executing renewable energy projects of a cumulative of 2 GW. These entail a 600 MW solar power project in Gujarat and a solar project worth 810 MW in Rajasthan.

Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman & Managing Director, NLC India Limited added that the newly formed entity will be responsible for planning, participation in upcoming renewable energy tenders as well as the execution and commissioning of renewable projects. It will also tender projects.

NIGEL aspires to achieve 5 GW by 2030.

NLC India is also in the advanced stage of signing a Joint Venture Agreement with Assam Power Distribution Company Limited for developing a 1000 MW solar project in Assam. Additionally, it is contemplating establishing a 2000 MW Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park in Tamil Nadu through a proposed JV Company with TANGEDCO and PFCCL.
