Nitin Gadkari Stresses On Domestic Manufacturing For EV’s

Union Minister for Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that India at present wants an electricity-based technology that will enable mass rapid transportation which is not just cost-effective but will also be ‘Made in India.’

Nitin Gadkari was addressing the Silicon Valley monthly Dialogue (SVD) which is a series of dialogues that is launched by the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS). This is being done on the occasion of India-at-75 ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

The Union Minister was talking on ‘Rebuilding Infrastructure for India 2.0’ which is a part of the ‘Reimagining India 2.0 series’.

He informed the Indian-American audience  based out of Silicon Valley about the steps that the Indian Government has taken for the betterment of the infrastructure sector. He gave an in-depth scenario of bolstering the transportation sector of the country. “We are in search of the technology, which can be cost-effective and which we can make in India for mass rapid transport on electricity,” said Gadkari.

He added, “US-based companies can collaborate with our research and development reports towards EV factory technology and the retrofitting industry. The government is strongly encouraging solar and the best charging mechanism for electric mobility.”

Nitin Gadkari told the audience that the Indian Government has taken some innovative and necessary steps towards battery swapping policy and also standardization for electric vehicle batteries. He said that this provides a huge opportunity for technologies and businesses as battery swapping is a completely new sector.

“Both countries have a huge pool of young and talented engineers working on the most advanced technology. I sincerely hope you will come forward and form joint ventures to realize the benefit of advanced technology in the area of construction, alternative, prevail, and agriculture practices,” Gadkari said.

Nitin Gadkari also said that he is confident that by the end of 2024, his government will make the road infrastructure in India equal to that of the USA.

India has an informal target of 30% EV share by 2030 for its transportation sector. National carrier Indian railways has already set a 100% electrification target of its network by 2023.
