NGEL Invites Bids For Solar & BESS Projects At Great Nicobar

NTPC subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) to set up solar power infrastructure with Battery Energy Storage system (BESS) and Transmission System at Great Nicobar Island. NGEL is accepting bids till September 8, 2025.

The tender follows the mandate from the Ministry of Power under the plan for the Holistic Development of Great Nicobar Island. NTPC Green's latest tender invited Expression of Interest (EoI) from any Indian Company/their Consortium/affiliates/Representatives for exploring “Development and Installation of Solar PV Plant with BESS at GNI”.

Through this Expression of Interest (EoI), NGEL intends to explore opportunities to develop ground-mounted solar projects with battery storage and a floating solar project at Great Nicobar Island (GNI), India. Tentatively, the tender targets to add up to 5 MW of ground-mounted solar PV plant with BESS  capacity of 4 MW/12 MWh and up to 20 MW Floating Solar PV Project planned capacity. However,  the capacity will be finalized based on the response of the prospective companies.  

The tender explained that the purpose of this EOI is to identify companies capable of evaluating the site, preparing DPR, and working as EPC to install a Renewable energy project (ground-mounted and floating Solar) with BESS, along with transmission of power from the power plant to sub-stations at GNI.

Scope Of Work

The tender explained that the scope of the study is to analyze the following: 

• Study of energy requirement and the existing transmission system of the island, and suggest the capacity of the renewable energy project and the requirement of energy storage.
• Carry out and provide a Detailed Project Report (DPR) 
• Preparation of the Technical specification for the project.  
• EPC of Floating Solar and Ground-mounted Solar PV project with BESS.
• Transmission of power from the Power plant to existing substations.
• All statuary clearances and approvals shall be obtained by the contractor.
• Expectations from NGEL w.r.t the techno-commercial terms and conditions to install the project on the Island. 
• In this regard, the companies shall be required to come up with a detailed plan and past project experience of establishing renewable projects and BESS projects.  
• Details of the different technologies, Energy storage options, Cost optimization  routes, transit options, etc
