NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), an NTPC subsidiary, has issued a tender to build a solar plant with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Great Nicobar Island (GNI), India. NGEL through this EoI targets building a tentative planned capacity of up to 5 MW for the solar plant with a BESS capacity of up to 4 MW/12 MWh. However, the final capacity will be determined based on the responses from prospective companies. The last date for EoI submission is April 18, 2025.

NGEL's recent EoI also aligns with the Ministry of Power's (MoP) mandate to promote the holistic development of Great Nicobar Island. Its primary objectives are to scale renewable energy capacity, advance green energy technology, and promote innovation and sustainability in energy solutions. This project would also expand NTPC Green Energy Limited’s (NGEL) footprint in the renewable energy sector. It can contribute to NGEL’s target of achieving around 15 GW by FY25 and scaling further to approximately 44 GW by FY32.

Project Scope

NGEL further elaborated on the project's scope, stating, "The purpose of this EoI is to identify prospective companies capable of installing a renewable energy project with BESS, along with the transmission of power from the power plant to substations at GNI."

Under the broad scope of work, the bidder would be responsible for undertaking EPC activities to develop a ground-mounted solar project with BESS. The bidder would also handle the transmission of power from the plant to existing substations. Additionally, the bidder would study the island’s energy requirements and existing transmission system to recommend the capacity of the renewable energy project and the necessary energy storage requirements. The bidders must submit their responses, which would remain valid for up to six months after the response deadline (Response Validity).
