The funding for MCPV has been secured from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Province of Groningen and the Investment and Development Agency for the North of the Netherlands. The new 4 GW plant is expected to be operational by early 2026 in Veendam, Northern Netherlands, creating more than 600 full-time jobs. The project will easily be the largest solar manufacturing plant in the Netherlands, seeking to supply European markets primarily. Canada Announces C$500 million For Stronger Grid The Canadian government has announced up to C$500 million (US$363.2 million) in finance for the country’s Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways (SREPs) programme. The focus of the funding will be on strengthening the national grid, to improve ability to absorb more renewable power. Even as many provinces continue to push back against more solar power in particular, on the grounds that it is not as efficient or cost effective in Canadian conditions as other available options. Canada has one of the highest per capita power consumption numbers worldwide, a wasteful outlook to the environment that sits at odds with the majority of the country designated a nature preserve.
