NavAlt’s solar ferry built for Kerala State Water Transport Department is all set for trial in Alappuzha, Kerala.

The solar ferry with 75 seats will be launched soon after the successful trail. The boat will be taken to water bodies for trails in coming days.

According to The Hindi the boat made of fiber glass, is 20 meters in length and 7 meters in width. It will have a maximum cruising speed of 7.5 knots.

The solar ferry is expected to be costlier than the conventional boat because of the use of fiber in it, however, the maintenance and operation cost is expected to be lower.  The lithium battery used in the ferry can be charged by plugging on to an electric circuit. The publication notes that solar ferry could get from the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
