Meyer Burger Announces First Sales Partner for Solar Roof Tile Project

Meyer Burger Technology, a firm known for its production facilities in the photovoltaic industry, had announced the pilot phase of its solar roof tile. Now, the firm has revealed that it has onboarded its first distribution partner from the roofing trade. Dachdecker-Einkauf Süd eG (DE Süd), a market-leading specialist roofing distributor in Germany, will look into the supervision of the first pilot projects. It will also help with the implementation with their customers from roofing sector.

Meyer Burger says that the solar roof tiles are high quality as they contain solar cells that boast of high performance solar cells. These originate from the pilot production from the production plant in Thalheim.

“We are delighted to be able to provide the trade with such an innovative product for the product launch, together with Meyer Burger,” says Björn Augustin, Executive Board Member of DE Süd. The said solar roof tiles were showcased this year at trade shows, such as Intersolar and Dach+Holz. The roof tiles, says the firm, attracted interest from installers, roofers and end customers.

Once the current pilot phase of the project reaches completion, it will be headed for market launch in the second half of 2023. To facilitate the mass production of solar roof tile, Meyer Burger is looking to join hands with a contract manufacturing company based in Europe.

The solar cells and connection technology will originate from Meyer Burger’s own production. The firm will also pick and purchase all materials and components for the purpose. Meyer Burger says that this enables it to make sure that its product conforms to the company’s high quality standards, while also enabling it to strengthen its current supply chains. The intellectual property is also protected at the same time.

Meyer Burger Tile, the firm maintains, is an innovative roof tile solution. Visually appealing aesthetics and superior energy yield add to the attractive features of simple installation and maintenance. “The design of our Meyer Burger Tile enables a uniform and aesthetic appearance across the entire roof area and is therefore ideal for demanding architectural applications,” says Moritz Borgmann, Chief Commercial Officer of Meyer Burger.

The tile, which is currently being made, has private rooftop system owners in new construction or roof replacement scenarios, owners of property in redevelopment areas and listed buildings, as well as on buildings with limited roof load as target consumers.

The solar roof tiles, the Swiss firm say, will boast of industry-leading conversion efficiency of up to 17 percent. However, additional improvements are also in the offing. The other features of solar roof tiles are that it is hailstorm-proof and are classified as rigid roofing, thereby enabling installation up to the roof edge without additional safety clearance. Product and performance guarantee of 30 years has been offered on it.
