Malaysian 49MW Solar Power Plant Connected to the Grid

The 49MW solar power plant fully adopts Huawei FusionSolar Smart PV Solution, including smart PV string inverter SUN2000-42KTL and advanced technologies like Power Line Communication (PLC), etc.

Sinar Kamiri Sdn Bhd (Sinar Kamiri), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Mudajaya Group Berhad (Mudajaya) signed the PPA with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to develop and operate the 49 MW solar PV power plant (Project).

The 49MW solar power plant fully adopts Huawei FusionSolar Smart PV Solution, including smart PV string inverter SUN2000-42KTL and advanced technologies like Power Line Communication (PLC), etc. With the PLC technology, no RS485 cables is required, which delivers a simpler system with safer and more reliable data transmission.

“The region has sufficient and long duration of sunshine, but also poses challenges such as the complex mountain topography, which will cause shadows and string mismatches frequently, as well as the high temperature and humidity. Only the plant devices with the highest standard can cope with such demanding environment,” Mudajaya said: “Huawei string inverter adopts multi-MPPT design and each MW has 90+ MPPTs, which minimizes the energy yield loss caused by PV string mismatches. Moreover, the high-quality Huawei product inherits the no-vulnerable part design and provides higher reliability with only one tenth of the industry’s failure rate. Therefore, the energy yield loss of the string inverter is far less than that of the central inverter. This is why we chose Huawei as our partner.”

Commenting on the development, Eric Wang, Director of Huawei FusionSolar Malaysia mentioned, “We provide “5-free” features: fuse free, external fan free, LCD screen free, RS485 cable free, and these “four free” ultimately leads to the fifth – maintenance free, because the major causes of fault are effectively eliminated, that ensures the highest availability and the maximum benefit of customers.”

Huawei FusionSolar Smart PV Solution requires the same initial investment CAPEX as traditional solutions but offers lower OPEX in addition to more than 2% higher energy yields. Inverter O&M efficiency is boosted by more than 50% thanks to the natural cooling system and zero-touch maintenance.

So far, the mature application of Huawei FusionSolar Smart PV Solution has reached over 75 GW globally, and more than 360 MW deployment in Malaysia. Huawei’s local service team provides high quality service during the 21 years lifespan of PV plant here.  According to the analysis report from IHS Markit, Huawei has ranked No. 1 in global inverter shipments for three consecutive years since 2015 and the Huawei FusionSolar is highly recognized by worldwide customers. Smart PV leads the industry and that is starting to shift central inverters toward string inverters.

Having successfully executed one of the largest solar plant in Malaysia on the most challenging terrain and the experience of multiple partnerships such as Huawei, Mudajaya is gearing up for the next Large Scale Solar tender (“LSS3”) to support Malaysia’s initiative to increase renewable energy target to 20% by 2025.
