The Madhya Pradesh (MP) cabinet has approved three solar-cum-energy storage power supply projects to meet the state’s energy requirements. The MP government said it would develop these projects through Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (REWA).
Approval has been granted for a 300 MW solar project with 4-hour storage. In addition, the government intends to develop a 300 MW solar project with 6-hour storage, along with a 200 MW solar project with 24-hour storage. The Madhya Pradesh government additionally aims to develop this project under single-cycle charging-based energy storage projects to make affordable, clean, and reliable electricity available during peak demand periods.
Solar energy is available only during the daytime and depends on weather conditions. Similarly, wind energy availability is uncertain and depends on wind speed. With the increasing share of renewable energy in Madhya Pradesh, grid stability requirements, peak-demand management.
With this, the establishment of renewable energy–based energy storage projects has become extremely important. This initiative by the state government aims to ensure a 24/7 power supply.
Companies Eyeing Renewable Projects in Madhya Pradesh
Currently, Madhya Pradesh–based Shakti Pumps has recently invested Rs 3 crore in its subsidiary, Shakti Energy Solutions Limited, to establish a greenfield high-efficiency solar DCR cell and solar PV module manufacturing plant in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh.
The investment is aimed at setting up a production capacity of 2.20 GW. The funds will cover preliminary expenses related to the plant, while significant payments for plant and machinery and other major costs are expected to follow.
