L’Oréal Signs Agreement with EDF for Renewable Energy

  • As per the 15-year agreement, EDF will be focussing  on two solar parks located in the Corrèze and Vosges regions, where EDF will be able to produce 25% of the L’Oréal’s energy consumption in France.

L’Oréal Signs Agreement with EDF for Renewable Energy EDF Renewables and partner up through PPA

French personal care company L’Oréal has partnered for renewable energy with EDF Renewables through a PPA. EDF Renewables is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the French utility EDF Group.

As per the 15-year agreement, EDF will be focussing  on two solar parks located in the Corrèze and Vosges regions, where EDF will be able to produce 25% of the L’Oréal’s energy consumption in France. The plants will boast of a cumulative installed power of 27 MWp.

Commenting on the partnership, L’Oréal Chief Operations Officer, Member of the Executive Committee, Antoine Vanlaeys said, “In line with our sustainability ambition ‘L’Oréal for the future’, our group continues to move towards decarbonising the energy we use and reducing our carbon footprint.” Elaborating on the its decarbonisation plans, he added, “We are committed to achieving carbon neutrality at all our sites by 2025, by improving energy efficiency and using 100% renewable energy. “I’d like this innovative and long-term partnership to be future-ready. Together, we are definitively pushing the boundaries to create a more sustainable world.”

In addition to the two upcoming solar plants, EDF has been supplying electricity to L’Oréal’s wind farm in operation for two years already.

Customers have always demanded, natural, organic and chemical free beauty products from their brands and they want companies themselves to be sustainable. Thus, to become sustainable, beauty companies are moving towards clean energy – solar power. To name a few beauty brands that are using solar power successfully- Aveda, Dr. Bronner’s,Twelve Beauty, Estée Lauder, Honua Hawaiian Skincare, BYBI among a few others.

In India, Indian Ayurvedic brand Soultree of Vedicare Ayurveda Pvt Ltd. became the first brand to start fully solar-powered flagship store in Gurugram.

A few days back, EDF Renewables in Australia had announced the acquisition of the 10 GW Newcastle floating offshore wind farm located in Australia.
