International solar cell and module manufacturing maker JA Solar has announced that it has leased space for its first manufacturing facility in the US in Phoenix of Arizona.

JA Solar said that the new facility will produce high-performance photovoltaic (PV) products, and is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2023.

Attracting an investment of $60 million, the new facility will produce high-efficiency solar PV modules for commercial and residential rooftop applications, as well as for utility-scale solar power plants deployment. The annual production capacity of the factory will be 2 GW once it is fully functional.

Aiqing Yang, President, JA Solar, said, “JA Solar thanks all the partners in Arizona, especially the ACA, GPEC, and the City of Phoenix for their great support and tremendous assistance during the entire process of site selection and space leasing in preparation to establish the manufacturing facility. Solar is a critical part of renewable energy and we are thrilled to be a part of the effort to meet the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 in the U.S.”

Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA), said that the new facility of JA Solar showcases Arizona’s attractiveness as a global manufacturing destination.” The Arizona Commerce Authority is the state’s leading economic development organization on a mission to grow and strengthen Arizona’s economy.

JA Solar also said in its official statement that the Phoenix facility will be the largest manufacturing site of solar/PV products in Arizona with a capacity of 2 gigawatts.

“Innovations in clean technology allow Greater Phoenix to produce the power requisite for promoting job growth throughout the region,” said Chris Camacho, President and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. He added that the facility will create more than 600 jobs for local residents and sustainably bolstering energy production in the region to enable economic transformation.

JA Solar’s new facility builds on recent renewable energy announcements throughout the state including battery manufacturers Sion Power and American Battery Factory in Tucson and solar module manufacturer Meyer Burger in Goodyear.

JA Solar is a Beijing (China) headquartered solar power player that has 12 manufacturing bases across the world with 20 branches delving in the making of silicon wafers, cells, modules and photovoltaic power stations.
