Central public sector undertaking and multi-technology player ITI Ltd has announced that it has commissioned a 1-MW solar power plant at its ITI Palakkad Plant. The solar power project is grid-connected, said ITI Ltd.

Rajesh Rai, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of ITI Limited, Nagraj K.V., General Manager & Unit Head and Prince R V, Additional General Manager of ITI Ltd were present during the inauguration of the solar power plant.

With the commissioning of the solar plant, ITI Ltd could reduce 750 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. This is equivalent to planting approximately 4500 trees every year. The solar plant is going to produce 12.5 lac units of green electricity per year.

ITI Ltd held that the commissioning of the solar facility will lead to big savings on electricity bills that the company would otherwise be paying for electricity consumption. The solar generated electricity will also be banked. The surplus energy generated by the PSU will also be sold to the energy grid of Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL). The PSU has commissioned bidirectional ABT Meters in the solar power project.

ITI Ltd also has captive rooftop solar power installations at its facilities in Naini, Raebareli, Mankapur, Lucknow, and Bangalore.

Speaking at the inauguration, Rajesh Rai, CMD, ITI Ltd, stated, “We are very happy to inaugurate the solar power plant, which is a significant step in our sustainability journey and also in our energy conservation endeavors. This initiative is in line with our commitment of reducing our carbon footprint and promoting clean energy.”

The CMD also added, “Another heartening thing to note here and for which we are very proud is that 3702 Solar PV Panels of 325Wp have been sourced from ITI Limited’s Naini Plant which manufactures them. We look forward to scaling up the solar projects across our different Units. Commissioning of the Plant was a part of our continued and sincere efforts to contribute to our country’s greener future.”
