Italy’s Enel Green Power Kickstarts Agrivoltaic Solar Project of 170 MW Capacity By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Fri, Mar 24th, 2023 Highlights : As per the company statement, this will not only be the largest solar plant in Italy, but also the biggest agrivoltaic plant in the country. Italy's Enel Green Power Kickstarts Agrivoltaic Solar Project of 170 MW Capacity Italian renewable energy firm Enel Green Power has set into motion the construction of an agrivoltaic solar project of 170 MW capacity. It will be established in Tarquinia city. As per the company statement, this will not only be the largest solar plant in Italy, but also the biggest agrivoltaic plant in the country. The project will give employment to close to around 330 people. The timeline for its construction will be 13 months. The location will employ bifacial photovoltaic modules, which will facilitate the absorption of solar energy from both the sides. These will further be mounted on trackers. The solar farm will be constructed in an area that is owned by a local firm, which will be working alongside the renewable energy developer to incorporate agricultural activities at the plant. Unused areas will see the growth of fodder and borage between solar panel rows. Olive trees will also be planted. The CEO of Enel Green Power, Salvatore Bernabei, remarked, “The solar plant we are building in Tarquinia shows that an increase in the use of renewable energy can be harmoniously combined with agricultural activities. In fact, this plant will seamlessly integrate with the local area and will host crops, resulting in a positive impact on the environment, economy and local area, as well as helping to reduce Italy’s energy dependency.” The firms partaking in the establishment of the plant are from Latium. Last year, Coimbatore-based renewable energy player Greentech and Enel Green Power signed an agreement under which Greentech will handle operations and maintenance of wind turbines installed and commissioned by Enel Green in the state of Gujarat.
