IndiGrid, which owns, operates, and manages power transmission networks and renewable energy assets delivering reliable power throughout India, has revealed that it has commissioned its first battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The project is integrated with its solar panels at the Dhule substation in Maharashtra.

As per the statement by the company, the BESS project will aid the auxiliary consumption of the substation. It further stated it will not only “reduce our emissions but also act as a prototype for expanding our presence in energy transition opportunities in the sector.

Harsh Shah, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGrid remarked that the facility will also serve as a test bed, thereby catalysing IndiGrid’s potential to realise opportunities in energy transition, both in the areas of solar and BESS.

“As operations at this project stabilize, we look forward to replicating similar systems across our other substations and reduce emissions of our operations,” he further noted.

At present, IndiGrid is the owner of 17 power projects, entailing 46 transmission lines that boast of over 8,416 ckms (circuit kilometers) length. It has 13 substations that have 17,550 MVA transformation capacity and solar generation capacity worth 100 MW (AC).

The firm’s AUM (assets under management) stand at more than Rs 22,700 crore (USD 2.7 billion). The investment manager of IndiGrid is wholly owned by KKR.

Recently, IndiGrid  had announced its results for the quarter ended September 30, 2022, where it reflected strong growth.

In 2021, IndiGrid made news by entering into the largest transmission deal asset in India.
