India's Solar Capacity Touches 110 GW, Says MNRE
The latest data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) claimed that India's solar capacity has surpassed 110 GW as of May 31, 2025. The ministry, in its latest physical progress report, has indicated the addition of different renewable energy fuels in the month of May.
3 GW From Hybrid Projects
The total installed solar capacity now stands at 110,834.28 MW (110.83 GW). Of this, ground-mounted solar projects remain the largest contributor, accounting for 84.43 GW, followed by grid-connected rooftop solar at 18.37 GW. The balance includes 5.01 GW of off-grid solar and 3.02 GW from hybrid projects.

The recent surge also aligns with the government's push under schemes like PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to accelerate residential rooftop solar adoption by offering incentives and simplified processes for households.
Between April 1 and May 31, 2025, India added 5,187.8 MW of new solar capacity, further solidifying solar’s lead among renewable energy sources.
Wind Capacity At 51 GW
Meanwhile, wind power—India’s second-largest source of renewable electricity—reached a cumulative installed capacity of 51,292.25 MW, with 1,254.43 MW added in the first two months of FY 2025–26, the MNRE report said.
The country’s total installed renewable energy capacity, including solar, wind, small hydro, biomass, waste-to-energy, and large hydro, stood at 226,750.77 MW at the end of May 2025.
