Waaree Solar Americas Wins 599 MW Module Supply Deal in US
India’s cumulative enlisted solar module manufacturing capacity has surpassed 90 GW, according to the latest update of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The updated list reflects the expanding solar module manufacturing landscape in the country.
The latest ALMM includes the addition of new solar module manufacturing units as well as capacity expansions by existing enlisted companies. The list now features 105 approved solar module manufacturers. The cumulative capacity touched 90.95 GW.
Reliance Enters ALMM
Among the key highlights is the much-anticipated entry of Reliance Industries, which has been enlisted with an initial capacity of 1,716 MW. The move marks the official inclusion of the conglomerate in the government’s list of approved solar manufacturers, aligning with its broader clean energy ambitions.
The list also includes Avaada Electro, which added 1,272 MW of new solar module manufacturing capacity. Avaada Group joins other renewable project developers such as ACME Solar and ReNew in venturing into solar manufacturing. Meanwhile, SASA Energy saw a reduction of 2 GW in its enlisted capacity.
Beyond solar modules
MNRE is now working to expand the scope of ALMM to include solar cell manufacturing. It has already issued guidelines and a prescribed format for the inclusion of domestic solar cell manufacturers. Once implemented, India’s solar cell manufacturing capacity—currently at around 25 GW—is expected to grow significantly, potentially reaching 90 GW. Over 40 solar module manufacturers have announced plans to enter solar cell manufacturing by 2026–2027.
